PROFILE AND DEVELOPMENT Sunset Supply Network’s parent company, The Sunset Group, was established in 1987 and began operations as a take and bake pizza retailer. Within a short 3 years, the company grew and evolved into a wholesale Pizza Manufacturer that specialized in custom pizza programs for the grocery store service deli business such as Albertson’s, Safeway, and Smart & Final, and began exporting to Korea, Mexico and Russia. Meanwhile, the mega-retailers dominating the market place began using their position to demand slotting fees, rebates, ad allowances, and price-cutting from the suppliers. After the uncontrolled mergers of the 1990’s, the remaining few giant companies in the production and supply chain who had the ability to spread costs and meet these demands now began to eliminate or acquire the competition. Without competition quality, innovation, and availability begin to decline. Although our company had grown into the multi-million dollar sales range, it soon became apparent that we would not be able to retain our clients through a higher standard of service and quality innovative products alone. The super-corporation’s ability to purchase raw materials and supplies at better prices through volume buying made it impossible for us to remain competitive as a local independent operation. We began to research and develop a system that could bring all participants left in the industry back to a field of equal competition where quality, variety, and innovation were again just as important as price. Sunset Resource Group and Sunset Supply Network are the result of several years of assembling technology, contacts, and expertise. Our web site is a simple to use, no cost Internet based system that connects the Suppliers of raw ingredients and base products from the U.S. and around the world, directly with processors; and the processors directly to distributors or retailers; and finally to the end user. It provides access to these raw materials and finished products at volume discounts and special net prices, and serves as a platform to showcase finished products as well as introduce new ones. Wholesale suppliers and processors can list their product lines and specifications on our web site, along with any closeouts and over runs, at no charge. Since there are no selling costs or advertising expenses involved, they are able to offer their products at NET prices and receive instant international exposure. Buyers can submit the ingredients or products they are interested in purchasing to be anonymously grouped with other buyers of similar items to obtain volume pricing. Once a match is made, they are contacted via email with the details and terms we were able to procure. Users have the ability to connect with their counter parts in other areas of the world to not only combine purchasing power but, if necessary, production capacity as well. This lowers costs and provides the ability to service worldwide retailers from regional operations. Sunset will assist as production coordinator to locate co-packing and purchasing of identical products when and where possible and can serve as a single representative to negotiate directly with the central buying offices utilized by many of the large corporations if so desired. In this way, local processors can now compete for the business opportunities at the national and International chain stores like Allied Stores, Kroger and Wal-Mart by offering lower net prices on their finished goods and utilizing other similar producers regionally located to service the distribution centers these companies have located across the country and around the world. In addition, the web site serves as an information hub for real time industry-related news and current market trends. When entering a product of interest in our database users will have the option of being notified of related news or market data carried by the major trade and world news organizations on that specific product or industry. |
